Voters launch anti-Trump election lawsuit in Michigan

President Trump’s legal tangles over the presidential election are expanding with a lawsuit from a group of Michigan voters who say his recount battle will disenfranchise them.

Three black Detroit residents sued Trump and his campaign Friday in federal court in Washington, DC, alleging that the president’s claims of election fraud in Michigan amount to voter suppression, Politico reported.

The suit, joined by the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, aims to stymie Trump’s ongoing efforts to undo his loss in Michigan.

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s lead attorney in his election challenge, said Thursday that the campaign has hundreds of sworn affidavits attesting to cheating by poll workers in Detroit.

But Trump’s tactics, the voters’ lawsuit says, “repeat the worst abuses in our nation’s history, as Black Americans were denied a voice in American democracy for most of the first two centuries of the Republic.”

In Arizona, meanwhile, the last voter-brought lawsuit against the election was dismissed by a Maricopa County judge Friday.

The case was brought by two local Republicans who said that poll workers had mishandled their ballots, causing their votes not to be counted. Judge Margaret Mahoney did not explain her reason for the dismissal.

One of the complainants, Laurie Aguilera, was also involved in the “Sharpiegate” lawsuit — alleging that felt-tip pens handed out by poll workers had improperly disqualified ballots — that the Trump campaign filed Nov. 7 and dropped days later.
