Tropical Storm Iota Tears Across Nicaragua, Is Downgraded From Hurricane

MEXICO CITY—Hurricane Iota weakened Tuesday as it marched across Nicaragua where it crashed ashore overnight as a Category 4 storm, the second major hurricane in as many weeks to hit the country, flooding homes and causing further misery in an already-waterlogged region.

At around 7 p.m. EST, Iota moved into Honduras as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles an hour, and was located 35 miles from the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
