Travellers from Italy to Scotland face quarantine from Sunday while Greece taken off list
Travellers returning to the UK from Italy will have to quarantine from Sunday.

The UK Department of Transport (DfT) and Scottish Government have announced the new rules being put in place for travellers from Italy, San Marino and Vatican City State.

The rules will be implemented from 4am on Sunday and will require those effected to stay in quarantine for 14 days.

Meanwhile, mainland Greece and the Greek islands, except Mykonos, will be added to the exemption list for people arriving in UK, including Scotland, due to the low number of cases there.

Italy recorded its highest daily number of coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with 7,332.

This brings its seven-day rate of cases per 100,000 people to 64.

The UK’s case rate currently stands at 166.

Figures have been calculated by the PA news agency based on data collected by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

A rate of 20 is the threshold above which the Government considers triggering quarantine conditions.

Community Safety Minister Ash Denham said:

“Lifting quarantine restrictions on those travelling from most of Greece, in line with the public health data we have received, is not a signal that it is safe to book foreign travel. All travel carries a risk and people should think long and hard before choosing to go abroad.

“It is vital that we supress the spread of the virus in Scotland and imposing quarantine restrictions on those arriving in the UK is our first line of defence in managing the risk of importing cases from communities with high risks of transmission.

“We are continuing to have regular discussions with the other three governments in the UK.”
