Verphy Kudi, 19, found her 20-month-old daughter Asiah unresponsive after leaving her alone in her Brighton, East Sussex, flat for almost a week.

A teenage mum was trying to sell concert tickets on Twitter the same day she found her baby had starved to death, it has been claimed.

Verphy Kudi had left 20-month-old Asiah in her Brighton flat alone for six days while she attended bashes across the country, before returning to find her unresponsive.

It has now emerged that the now 19-year-old aspiring model had been trying to sell tickets for an upcoming Lil Durk gig on social media that morning.

However, it is unclear whether the tweet – from now deleted account @veeeldn – at 9.32am on December 11, 2019 was from before she found her daughter.

In a screenshot obtained by the Daily Mail, the post read: “Three standing lil durk tickets for the 3rd Feb. DM me.”

Kudi was seen on CCTV leaving her flat on her 18th birthday to attend bashes in London, Coventry and Solihull over a period of just under a week, a court heard.

On returning home, she called 999 after finding Asiah unresponsive, with the child taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital but confirmed dead on arrival.

A post-mortem examination and forensic tests found that Asiah’s death was the result of neglect.

Kudi appeared in the dock at Lewes Crown Court wearing a face mask on Friday.

She had been due to stand trial later this year before formally entered a guilty plea to a charge of manslaughter.

Judge Christine Laing QC told her: “You have heard that before I get to sentence you the defence want to get a report on your behalf and a doctor will no doubt make arrangements to see you and interview you over the next few weeks.”

She ordered that all social services records relating to the case be disclosed to the defence ahead of sentencing.

The case was adjourned to a provisional sentencing date of May 28, but Kudi was warned this may be delayed.

Senior Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme, said: “This was a particularly distressing case for my team and me to investigate, and has caused great sorrow amongst Verphy’s family and the many agencies that have supported Verphy and Asiah.”

Sentencing is due to take place in May.

Kudi lived in a residential complex run by charity YMCA DownsLink for vulnerable young families on behalf of Brighton City Council, according to reports.

Her sister Aisha Batrane told the Daily Mail : “This whole situation has completely broken my family. It might be entertainment for the rest of the world but it’s totally shattered us.

“We are heartbroken and angry at how Verphy behaved. Verphy had been estranged from the family for quite a long time and we had minimal contact with her.

“We have spoken to her and we’re still not clear what she was doing for those six days, who she was with and why she left like that? Who the hell knows? We can’t understand it.”

A spokesperson for Brighton & Hove Safeguarding Children Partnership said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Asiah.

“In our safeguarding role, we are currently working with our partners to look into what happened and are conducting a Child Safeguarding Practice Review.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “We have been deeply saddened by this tragedy.

“The case is currently the subject of criminal proceedings, and the city’s Safeguarding Children Partnership is also conducting a review of the circumstances into the tragic death of this young child.

“We have fully supported the police investigation, and are committed to working with the partnership in its review and taking learning from this.

“Asiah was not on a child protection plan and was not involved with social work services when she died.”

Family of woman who left baby to die while she partied ‘broken’ by the tragedy

The sister of Verphy Kudi says the whole family has been left ‘completely broken’ after 20-month-old Asiah starved to death in Brighton.

The family of a woman convicted of the manslaughter of her baby say they have been left ‘broken’ by the tragedy.

Verphy Kudi, now 19, left her daughter home alone for six days while she celebrated her birthday.

A court heard that the teenager walked out on 20-month-old Asiah and partied while her baby starved to death in 2019.

Kudi admitted causing the death of her infant daughter in Brighton on Friday.

Following the hearing, Verphy Kudi’s father Muba Kudi said his ‘heart is so broken’ after the death of his granddaughter.

He told the Daily Mail: “My heart is so broken. My daughter was missing. She had been missing since the age of 14.”

Her sister Aisha Batrane added: “This whole situation has completely broken my family. It might be entertainment for the rest of the world but it’s totally shattered us.”

Aisha said Verphy had been estranged from the family for quite a long time and that they had minimal contact with her.

She said it is still not clear to them why she left for those six days, adding that the family now wants to be left alone to grieve.
