Strictly 2020: Fans cry happy tears as Nicola Adams and Katya Jones make history in first same-sex dance

Strictly Come Dancing has made history tonight after Katya Jones and Nicola Adams formed the show’s first ever same-sex couple.

It’s the moment we have all been waiting for – and they didn’t disappoint as the duo performed the Quickstep to Judy Garland’s Get Happy.

Taking to Twitter fans applauded the pair for their incredible choreography that even left some viewers in tears.

‘I’m crying! @NicolaAdamsOBE what a great job!’ one wrote while another said: ‘I LOVED IT AND IT MADE ME CRY HAPPY TEARS.’

Someone else added: ‘Couldn’t stop smiling watching @NicolaAdamsOBE – maybe a little tear in the eye! History has been made. And it was beautiful.’

Others felt the same adding: ‘I’M EMOTIONAL.’

And it seems the judges were on board with the groundbreaking performance as Shirley Ballas said: ‘Katya you’re a genius. This is a partnership I’m really going to enjoy watching’

Motsi Mabuse pressed: ‘I have to say, I was very curious – how is it all going to happen? How is it going to turn out? And you haven’t disappointed.

‘You looked good, I like how everything has fitted together. Oh my goodness you rocked it we liked it, keep going’

And they even won over Craig Revel Horwood.

‘They proved it is absolute dynamite,’ he said. ‘I absolutely adored that routine. What a fantastic, fantastic partnership.’

The paired got the impressive score of 21, after getting a seven from each judge and they were over joyed.

We cannot wait to see what they bring to the competition.
