Stacey Solomon has opened up on her battle with imposter syndrome, admitting that she sometimes questions whether she deserves her success.
The 31 year old skyrocketed to fame in 2009 when she competed on The X Factor, finishing in third place.
One year later, she entered the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, where she was crowned Queen of the Jungle.
Mum-of-three Stacey has since found success as a panellist on ITV daytime show Loose Women and has now launched a book named Tap To Tidy, inspired by her newfound love or organising — which she showcases on social media.
But the star, who grew up with a humble background, has now discussed how she feels about the fame and success she has experienced over the last 12 years.
She said of her battle with imposter syndrome: “This goes back to the X Factor. I couldn’t believe where I was.
“When I was on it, they did these masterclasses, and it was people that I’d grown up idolising like George Michael, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston.
“And I just couldn’t believe what the hell I was doing and when it was over, I thought, ‘OK, this is enough for me,’ and every year after that, every venture, every opportunity I’ve ever been given, I almost have like a slight imposter syndrome,” she told The Irish Independent.
Stacey continued: “When you’ve grown up with limited resources, there’s almost a narrative that everything’s unlikely and the odds are against you.
“I guess then, if things start to happen, you immediately think, ‘Do I even deserve this?’ I really work hard to teach the boys that nothing is certain.”
Next, Stacey will transform into a TV presenter after landing her own home improvement show on the BBC.
The series, named Sort Your Life Out, will feature Stacey’s team including home organiser Dilly Carter, carpenter and upcycler Robert Bent and cleaning expert Iwan Carrington.
A pilot episode is due to air this spring before the six-part programme airs later in the year.
She said of the news: “I never in a million years thought I’d get the chance to go into people’s homes and help them up cycle, organise and sort everything out.
“It’s an absolute dream come true… So I’m over the moon that I’m finally allowed to say, after filming a pilot taster over a year ago, it’s actually happening.
“I know it wouldn’t have been commissioned if it wasn’t for you all supporting me and giving me the best confidence boost ever.”
