Spurs plan to sell keeper Mourinho ‘doesn’t trust’

Spurs are hoping to sell Paulo Gazzaniga this summer as boss Jose Mourinho reportedly ‘doesn’t trust’ the player.

Gazzaniga has endured a tough time in North London since the arrival of Joe Hart in August.

The Argentinian shot-stopper was forced to join Spanish side Elche in January in search of game time.

According to Football Insider, Spurs will hold talks with Gazzaniga on his return from Elche at the end of the campaign.

They will aim to engineer a transfer for the 29-year-old away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The report states that Mourinho ‘doesn’t trust’ Gazzaniga in the first team and is willing to let him leave.

The manager is hoping Hugo Lloris will return to form after a string of poor performances.

Spurs can also rely on former England number one Hart, who was signed as a backup for Lloris.

Gazzaniga proved his worth to the club last season following a serious injury to club captain.

He made 18 Premier League appearances from September onwards as Spurs secured sixth place.

But the player has fallen down the pecking order under Mourinho and his future at the club is pretty much over.

Gazzaniga has been an unused sub in three La Liga fixtures this term with Elche.

He is struggling to overtake Edgar Badia as the club’s number one shot-stopper.

Despite his lack of game time, there will be plenty of potential suitors for Gazzaniga if he does leave.

He could drop down to a mid-table Prem club where he might be considered as the first-choice keeper.

An example is Emiliano Martinez, who left Arsenal to join Aston Villa in September.

Martinez has certified his place at Villa Park and is now one of the most reliable keepers in the division.
