Partnering with China Telecommunication Technology Labs (CCTL), Anker, FAW-Volkswagen, and NXP Semiconductors, the firm aims to bring innovations in device charging, 5G connectivity and smart technology. These partners will work with proprietary technical designs developed by OPPO, which has applied for more than 2,950 flash-charging patents worldwide. Over 1,400 have already been granted.

The Flash Initiative was born from OPPO’s commitment to making consumers’ lives easier, as it takes its products beyond home charging to the public space.

Senior Director of Intellectual Property at OPPO Adler Feng said at the conference: “The Flash Initiative reflects OPPO’s belief in human-centric technologies that make a difference in people’s everyday lives. And thanks to our new partners, our proprietary technologies can reach more people. This is a vital step in freeing consumers to use their devices wherever they want in the globe.”

The company’s latest flash charging products are already making fast charging possible. The 50W, pocket-size Mini SuperVOOC charger can power smartphones, tablets and even laptops. Meanwhile, the 65W AirVOOC wireless charger can fully refill a 4,000mAh phone battery in 30 minutes — and the 125W flash charger can do the same in just 20 minutes. Each product combines low voltage with a dual-cell structure, multiple charge pumps, and temperature sensors to automatically regulate voltage and dissipate heat.

“At OPPO, we firmly believe that 5G will change how we live. We’ll see related applications flourishing, bringing unexpected experiences to consumers. We’re already involved in the development of a global 5G standard, and will continue to explore new 5G devices and deployments, from TV to CPE to AR,” said Vice President of OPPO Research Institute Henry Tang.
