Oleksandr Usyk Receives Offer for Joe Joyce Fight – No Order From WBO

The much-awaited update on the Oleksandr Usyk situation is finally upon us. Alexander Krassyuk, the Ukrainian’s manager, spoke about the heavyweight challenger’s next move. He also provided an update on its implication on the Anthony Joshua–Tyson Fury fight.

This comes because of the complicated situation Usyk finds himself in, as he is the mandatory for Anthony Joshua’s WBO belt. However, the Englishman looks set to fight Tyson Fury in a mega-fight. Hence, many suspected Usyk would have to fight Joe Joyce.

Speaking exclusively to SkySports, Krassyuk gave an update on the Joyce fight. “I received the call from George Warren [the son of Joyce’s promoter Frank Warren] with the offer to promote Usyk vs Joyce for the interim WBO heavyweight championship this spring.”

This showed that the booking is a serious consideration right now, with the victor almost guaranteed a shot at the winner of Fury-Joshua. This could also be a cracking fight for fans, and an adequate test for both fighters before they compete against the champion.

Oleksandr Usyk has received no offer to step aside

The manager also spoke about the AJ vs Fury fight and said, “We also received the letter from WBO saying that they are considering granting sanction for AJ vs Fury.”

He confirmed that there was no order for Usyk to step aside, and added that the WBO has not communicated what his fighter has to do, neither has there been any offer from the Fury-Joshua promoters to step aside. However, Krassyuk is confident that the WBO will do nothing behind their backs.

He then called for the promoters of the fight to make an offer to Usyk to let the fight happen. Thus, these comments showed that he is still very much in the picture and could still play a part in disrupting that fight.

What do you make of this situation? Who is Oleksandr Usyk most likely to take on in his next fight?
