Kim Ng has been named GM of the Miami Marlins.
The Miami Marlins are fresh off a surprising playoff run, but they could have trouble sustaining that success if Derek Jeter doesn’t surround himself with the right people in the front office. While he was tempted to bring in former Yankees and Angels executive Billy Eppler as the team’s next general, Jeter instead chose to make history with a truly groundbreaking hire.
Ken Rosenthal has confirmed that Kim Ng will be named the next GM of the Miami Marlins. This historic hire makes Ng the first female GM in North American sports and the first Asian-American GM in MLB history.

Kim Ng has more than enough qualifications to serve as GM
Ng has been connected to baseball since 1991, when she was hired by the Chicago White Sox. She assumed the role of assistant director of baseball operations in 1995. Ng has served in various assistant general manager roles in her career, most notably in the late 1990s with the New York Yankees opposite Brian Cashman.
Ng joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2001 as vice president and assistant GM, eventually becoming the first female GM in major North American sports to interview for a GM job in 2005. Unfortunately, the Dodgers chose Ned Colletti over her. She served as Colletti’s assistant until 2011, interviewing with the Mariners, Padres, Angels, and Giants for their GM vacancies. Since leaving the Dodgers, she has been MLB’s Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations, reporting to former Yankees manager and chief baseball officer Joe Torre.
Ng will be able to hit the ground running with a young team fresh off postseason success. If Ng is as good a GM as she has been in her multitude of different roles within MLB, the Marlins could make themselves a playoff contender for years to come in the wide-open NL East.
