Jason Lee and Sharnie Bright-Penny have been together for seven months but have faced one major obstacle in their relationship; sleepless nights.

The pair both admit to having a bad habit of talking in their sleep, and Sharnie also keeps her boyfriend awake with her constant snoring.

Exhausted Jason had tried a few of the usual techniques to get her to stop, including the hug and roll, and even blowing on her face, but nothing was working.

Just when it looked like a lost cause, Jason found one thing that worked – but kept the very bizarre method a secret from his girlfriend.

Sharnie had no idea what he had been doing

Sharnie, 19, had been waking up with a wet face and had put it down to simply dribbling in her sleep – before Jason was forced to admit the truth.

The 22-year-old had found the only way to stop her snoring through the night and keeping him awake was to lick her face while she slept.

It wasn’t until Sharnie was kept awake by snoring while staying with a friend that he finally came clean about how he had tackled the problem.

Luckily Sharnie, from Maryport in West Cumbria, took it well, saying: “I hadn’t suspected anything. I’ve woken up with a wet face but I’ve always thought that was me dribbling while I was asleep, but obviously it was not.

He came clean in a text message

“He claims he had tried everything to get me to shut up but nothing had worked and it just got to the point where he had tried everything and licking my face was the only thing that worked.

“Honestly I find it hilarious. The fact that he was that fed up with my snoring and constant cuddles and that was the only way to make me stop.

“I honestly haven’t heard of it before – this is a first. I normally just hear about people pushing their partner away. I just couldn’t stop laughing.

“I asked him if he was going to keep doing it and his reply to that question was ‘no comment’, so I’m guessing he will.

“Snoring has been an issue between us. It’s not one that causes arguments as of yet, but it just keeps us awake and we get kind of grumpy with little sleep.

Jason says he tried everything before finding the method that worked

“We both also talk in our sleep but that’s more funny on both sides than annoying.

“I’ve talked about sweets and asked him to make me a cup of tea in my sleep. I’ve shouted for the cat and he’s asked me to turn down the lights even though the lights are always off.

“He’s said he loves me a few times and asked me to stop touching his tongue when I’m half-asleep facing away from him.

“After Jason told me that [he licks my face] I had to reveal mine. I tickle the back of his knees to get him to shut up and turn over.”

Jason said: “Her snoring sounds like a deep growl. I was determined to find something that shuts her up. She had rolled over several times in her sleep snoring in my ear.

“I rolled her over and she rolled back onto me and carried on snoring in my ear. When that didn’t work, I decided to try a hug and roll.

“I then decided to try blowing in her face and then as a last resort I just licked her face and it worked. I laughed because it was so stupid but I’m pretty happy I found a solution.

“I’ve been doing it about a week. Usually her snoring wakes me up so I try and get back to sleep but the snoring keeps me up as it’s right in my ear.”
