Why Louisville can cover

Malik Cunningham threw for 161 yards against Virginia to increase his season total to 1,907, putting him 159 away from setting a new career high. The junior quarterback was even more effective versus the Cavaliers with his legs, running for a personal-best 197 yards – the third-highest single-game total by a signal-caller in school history. Cunningham has rushed for 417 yards this year and 1,396 in his career, placing him second on Louisville’s all-time list among quarterbacks.

Cunningham failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season on Saturday but ran for a pair of scores, marking the second time in 2020 he has accomplished that feat. He is just the seventh quarterback in school history to record more than one multi-TD performance on the ground. With leading rusher Javian Hawkins (822 yards, seven TDs) electing to forego the rest of the season and focus on the 2021 NFL Draft, junior Hassan Hall (undisclosed) is expected to be returning just in time.

Why Syracuse can cover

After failing to have success with Tommy DeVito and Rex Culpepper, the Orange gave JaCobian Morgan a chance in their last contest. The freshman completed 19 of his 30 pass attempts against Boston College for 188 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Morgan made his collegiate debut a week earlier versus Wake Forest and was a perfect 7-of-7 for 57 yards and a TD.

Taj Harris is Syracuse’s top receiver as he leads the team in receptions (36), yards (507) and receiving touchdowns (career-high four). The junior, who had a streak of four straight games with a TD catch earlier this season, hauled in seven passes for 61 yards against Boston College. Harris needs five receptions and 58 yards to eclipse the career highs he set during his freshman year.
