The one-off episode was a huge hit – with over 17 million people tuning in – and left the nation wanting more.

Appearing on Loose Women today, Larry was asked if there was any chance of a film-version of the show.

He replied: “I remember talking to James [Corden] about the whole thing of having had 10 years of being asked if it was coming back, then you do the Christmas special and you’re back answering the same question.

“It’s a drug the nation is hooked on. I don’t know if there is [a movie]. I’d love it if there is.”

His co-star Alison Steadman – who plays his on-screen wife Pam recently revealed she would return to the show in a heartbeat if writers James and Ruth Jones asked her to.

Speaking to the Radio Times, the 73-year-old said: “I don’t take any notice of rumours, but there’s no way I wouldn’t do it.

“I’d run to Cardiff to be involved.”

However their co-star Rob Brydon – who plays Uncle Bryn – isn’t in the same boat, having previously urged writers James Corden and Ruth Jones to leave viewers wanting more.

He told Heat magazine back in January: “There are no plans whatsoever and personally I would say leave it where it is, with people wanting more.

“It’s always my instinct and I said that before this special and I was very surprised then to see that they had written it.

“Everyone is saying ‘you must want to do more’ but I’d much rather leave it on a high and it’s really hard to come back after 10 years and to make something as popular as it has been because you can get it wrong.”
