It’s all about subscriptions these days, with pretty much everything now coming with some sort of subscription that stops you from just buying things outright. Google got into that business last year with the launch of the Google Play Pass, and now that pass has left the US to arrive in other countries around the world – including the UK.
Play Pass is a lot like Apple Arcade, in that you subscribe to a continually updating catalogue of games and get access to everything in them without the worry of ads or in-app purchases trying to fleece you out of your life savings.
There’s not much more to it than that, because it’s a pretty simple idea. The subscription if going to cost you £5 a month or £30 a year, with the option to share it with five other family members. Obviously the annual subscription is a much better deal, since you’re paying half the overall amount, so I’d go for that option if you can. There is a free trial month too, so you’re not handing over all your money to something that you might not like.
To sign up you need to head to Google Play on your Android device, hit the menu button, then select Play Pass if it’s already there. If it’s not, you just need to be patient and wait for it to roll out some more. [Google]

Democratic norms are being stress-tested all over the world, and the past few years have thrown up all kinds of questions we didn't know needed clarifying – how long is too long for a parliamentary prorogation? How far should politicians be allowed to intervene in court cases? To monitor these issues as closely as we have in the past we need your support, so please consider donating to The Climax News Room.
