First glimpse inside the Midlands version of Bicester Village

This is the first glimpse inside the Midlands’ new £160m designer outlet opening this spring – and it is just over an hour’s drive away from Coventry.

Chase Community Independents Group has shared pictures online of the eagerly-anticipated McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands which has been likened to a Midlands version the well-known shopping outlet Bicester Village in Oxfordshire.

The images show the shopping centre in Cannock, Staffordshire, looks close to being completed and it is thought many of the big brand shops are due to open in the coming weeks, report BirminghamLive.

Bosses at Derbyshire-based Bowmer + Kirkland, the contractors behind the venture, said the project has been completed on time and within budget with 105 weeks build time, despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Steve Chambers, the construction firm’s regional director, told DerbyshireLive : “It has been an honour to work on McArthurGlen’s latest retail destination for the UK.

“Despite various challenges, including a worldwide pandemic, the entire team has worked well together, to ensure we delivered – on time and in budget – a stunning new designer outlet for the Midlands.”

Although most of Bowmer + Kirkland’s work was completed last year, they have remained on-site providing tenant support services during the shop fitting phase.

More than 80 high-end fashion brands will open at the outlet, offering year-round savings of up to 60 per cent.

Hugo Boss, Lacoste and Hobbs, Nike, Adidas and Luke are just some of the huge names announced so far.

Shoppers will be able to refuel at Wagamama, Starbucks and Five Guys, with the restaurants overlooking the Mill Green Nature Reserve.

Mike Thomas, centre manager at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet West Midlands, said: “B+K did a great job building our new outlet and it was a pleasure working with them at every stage.

“We’re really proud of the new centre and cannot wait to welcome our first visitors.”
