Doctors in China ‘silenced’ over ‘true’ coronavirus origin, medic claims

Doctors from the Covid epicentre city of Wuhan have been reportedly caught on camera admitting they were ‘silenced’ about the then-emerging virus in December 2019.

Reports say that a new ITV documentary, Outbreak: The Virus That Shook The World, will show a medic making the shocking claims.

In the piece, he is said to say: “We were told not to speak out. Provincial leaders told the hospitals not to tell the truth.”

A senior Wuhan medic will claim: “We all felt there shouldn’t be any doubt about human-to-human transmission,” The Sun reports.

The documentary adds that Covid was spreading rapidly for 12 days from January 5, but the Chinese reported no new cases.

Infectious diseases specialist Dr Yi-Chun Lo, of ­Taiwan’s Centres for Disease Control, said: “I think the pandemic could have been avoided at the beginning if China was transparent about the outbreak and was quick to provide necessary information to the world.”

The release of the documentary comes after one of America’s most senior government officials appeared to back a conspiracy theory about the origin of the pandemic.

He made the claim that the most ‘credible’ theory about the origin of coronavirus was that it escaped from a laboratory in China.

Matthew Pottinger, who is President Donald Trump ’s Deputy National Security Adviser, said that even China’s leaders now openly admit their previous claims that the virus originated in a Wuhan market are false.

Mr Pottinger said that the latest intelligence points to the virus leaking from the top-secret Wuhan Institute of Virology, 11 miles from the market, saying: “There is a growing body of evidence that the lab is likely the most credible source of the virus.”

He claimed the pathogen may have escaped through a ‘leak or an accident’, adding: “Even establishment figures in Beijing have openly dismissed the wet market story.”

Yesterday, it was reported that Donald Trump’s administration was ramping up accusations that China covered up the existence of the disease.

Claims were made that intelligence reports will be released ‘in days’ containing evidence Wuhan researchers fell ill with Covid-19-like symptoms long before the world knew of the virus.

The UK has declined to speculate, but called for China to assist investigators searching for answers.

Beijing has repeatedly denied the theories, saying the outbreak began in the city at the end of December 2019.

The World Health Organisation last week landed a research team in China, nearly a year after the pandemic began.
